WSOP Event 18

Way to go Mike Matusow, winning your third gold bracelet in a spectacular showing against a difficult field!

The World Series of Poker, Event 18 was a $5000 no-limit, deuce-to-seven draw lowball tournament.

Deuce-to-seven lowball is a very interesting game, especially when played no-limit. Players are dealt five cards, there is a single betting round, then players can “draw” (replace) cards from their hand. There is one final betting round, and then players compare hands to see who has won.

In deuce-to-seven lowball, the player with the worst (or lowest) hand wins.

Here, the final table consisted of Mike Matusow, Jeffrey Lisandro, Tom Schneider, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein, Tony G, and David Benyamine.

In the final hand Matusow pushed all-in against Lisandro, before “the flop” (drawing of cards), and Lisandro called. After Lisandro took only one-card, Matusow decided to stand-pat with his Queen-8 high. Lisandro flipped up his final card and it was a Queen, giving him Queen-9 high, and second place to Matusow.

We didn’t have the good fortune to witness this spectacular victory, but as a fan of “the Mouth,” we wish him further luck in this years WSOP events. Way to go Mike!
